A lighting layout built around the displays
Mahua Lane brings together a wide range of small, colourful products within one retail space. Hair accessories, toys, drinkware and bags occupy different display areas, each with its own lighting needs. The main consideration was how to make the merchandise easy to see while retaining flexibility as the store changes its displays.
An open, dark-coloured ceiling also made surface-mounted track lighting a practical choice for the sales area. Instead of relying on one uniform layer of ceiling light, the project combines adjustable track spotlights with linear lighting around architectural details and shelving.
Lighting used in the store
Adjustable track spotlights
More than 80 white LED track spotlights provide accent lighting for merchandise displays. The 4000 K neutral-white sources have a colour rendering index of CRI ≥ 90. Track heads can be re-aimed when the position or height of a display changes, without relocating fixed ceiling fittings.
During on-site installation, the track spotlights were adjusted to direct accent lighting toward the merchandise displays.
Linear LED lighting
Over 150 metres of 3000 K warm-white LED strip lighting are used along ceiling details, shelving edges and display niches. This adds a softer background layer and helps distinguish the shelving from the darker ceiling and surrounding surfaces.
Illuminated features
Backlit shelving and an RGB neon-style entrance feature provide additional visual accents. They complement the main product lighting rather than replacing it.
What this project shows
The combination of track spotlights and linear LEDs serves two different purposes: directional light for merchandise and integrated lighting for the store interior. The adjustable heads are particularly useful in shops where product categories and display arrangements change over time.
For similar retail projects, the lighting layout should be reviewed against shelf dimensions, merchandise colours, mounting conditions and the intended level of accent lighting. Fixture selection and aiming still need to be adapted to the individual store.
