If you are looking for an LED wall washer manufacturer that can customize length, power, beam angle and DMX control to fit your façade, this guide is for you. It explains what can be customized, which specifications matter on exterior walls, and how an order works at Fanxing Lighting, from a single standard sample to bulk delivery in about 25 days.
It is written for architects, lighting designers, contractors and project buyers. A wall washer looks simple on a drawing, but a wrong beam angle leaves hot spots, a wrong IP rating fails in the first rainy season, and a DMX system planned separately from the power supply can flicker on handover day.

What Is an LED Wall Washer?
An LED wall washer is a linear or rectangular luminaire that spreads light evenly across a vertical surface. The goal is a smooth, controlled wash, not a row of bright spots. That depends on the optic, the spacing and the distance from the wall.
Typical uses include building façades, hotel and commercial exteriors, bridges and towers, retaining and boundary walls, and interior feature walls and atriums. If you are still choosing between a broad wash and a shallow-angle effect, read our guide on wall washing vs wall grazing first.
What Can Be Customized
Standard catalogue models rarely fit a real façade perfectly. As a manufacturer, we adjust the following to match the project.
| Parameter | Customization options |
|---|---|
| Length | Cut to match wall modules, from short units to long runs |
| Power (W/m) | Lower for subtle accent, higher for tall façades |
| Beam angle | Narrow, medium or wide optics, including asymmetric options |
| Colour | Single colour white, tunable white, RGB, RGBW |
| Colour temperature | Warm to cool white to suit the wall material |
| Control | On/off, 0–10V, DMX512 |
| IP rating | Indoor use through to outdoor IP65, IP66 and IP67 |
| Housing finish | Anodized or powder-coated, in colours that match the architecture |
| Cable and connectors | Cable length, connector type, waterproof joints |
| Mounting | Wall, ground, bracket or adjustable bracket |

Specifications That Matter on Exterior Walls
1. Beam angle and distance to the wall
Beam angle and mounting distance work together. A wide beam placed close to the wall produces scallops and uneven brightness. A narrower beam placed further away gives a smoother wash. Send us the wall height, the distance from fixture to wall and the wall material, and we choose the optic from those three numbers.
2. Surface material and colour
The same fixture looks different on different surfaces. Dark stone absorbs light and needs more output. Light plaster reflects it and can look washed out if overdriven. Glossy glass or metal cladding can produce reflections instead of a wash. A short note on the wall finish saves a lot of trial and error.
3. Ingress protection: IP65, IP66 and IP67
The first digit (6) means dust-tight. The second digit describes water protection, and the differences matter outdoors:
| Rating | Water protection | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| IP65 | Protected against water jets from any direction | Sheltered or covered exterior walls |
| IP66 | Protected against powerful water jets, such as heavy rain or high-pressure cleaning | Open façades, exposed walls, areas that are washed |
| IP67 | Withstands temporary immersion | Fixtures at ground level where water can pool |
A rating describes the fixture as tested. Long-term performance also depends on the gaskets, cable glands and waterproof joints, which is why we specify them together with the housing. Our IP test reports are available on request.
4. Impact resistance (IK rating)
IK ratings (IK00 to IK10) describe resistance to mechanical impact. They matter when a fixture is mounted low or can be reached by the public. IK08 corresponds to a 5 joule impact and IK10 to a 20 joule impact. If your project needs a specific IK level, include it in your enquiry along with the mounting height, and we will propose a suitable housing and lens.
5. Corrosion resistance for coastal and humid sites
Near the sea or in humid climates, corrosion usually starts at the weakest point: the finish, the screws or the cable glands. Tell us the site conditions and we will recommend the housing alloy, surface treatment (anodizing or powder coating) and stainless fasteners to match.
6. UV and weather ageing
Diffusers and seals on sun-facing walls can yellow or harden over time. For these façades, specify UV-stable optics or glass, and tell us the climate so that we choose seals suited to it.
7. Lumen maintenance and LM-80
LM-80 is the standard test of how an LED package loses light output over time. Combined with TM-21 calculations, it is used to project how long a fixture keeps its brightness. We hold LM-80 reports, so you can check the long-term light output of the LEDs in your project.
8. Colour consistency on long façades
On a long façade, small differences in LED colour become visible side by side. Here is how we handle it: we confirm the LED bin and colour temperature on the approved sample, then produce the project to that confirmed specification. For large façades we recommend placing the full quantity in one production run and keeping a small spare quantity from the same batch for future maintenance.
9. Control and wiring
A DMX wall washer needs a plan for power, data and addressing before the fixtures are chosen. If you plan to use DMX512, the data topology, the termination and the power distribution should be designed together. Our DMX512 wall washer wiring guide covers the common faults, and DMX512 vs DALI-2 vs 0–10V helps you pick the control method for each part of the building.
Quality Checks Before Shipment
Every order is checked at the factory before packing. The checks include:
Burn-in (ageing) test: fixtures are powered on at rated load to catch early failures
Waterproof check: carried out according to the IP rating of the model
Electrical and function test: including colour, dimming and DMX addressing on controllable models
Appearance and size check: compared against the approved sample
Packing check: export packing to protect the finish and the optics in transit
Our 18,000 m² factory in Guzhen has more than 200 employees (2024 figures). You can read more on our manufacturing and quality control and certifications pages.

Where Custom Wall Washers Are Used
Hotels and resorts: soft, even light on entrance façades, podiums and feature walls
Commercial buildings and shopping centres: a consistent night-time identity across large exterior surfaces
Villas and residential projects: boundary walls, gate walls and landscaped façades
Public and landmark projects: towers, bridges and cultural buildings, often with dynamic colour control

How to Order a Custom LED Wall Washer
Step 1: Send your requirements. Share drawings or a short brief: wall size, mounting position, desired effect, control method and installation environment. Photos of the building help.
Step 2: Technical proposal and quotation. Our team recommends a configuration (length, power, beam angle, IP rating, control) and sends a quotation. Standard products start from MOQ 1; for custom specifications, the quantity depends on your requirements.
Step 3: Sample. Samples can be ready in as little as 3 days, depending on the specification. The sample fee can be deducted from, or refunded against, your bulk order.
Step 4: Confirmation and production. After you approve the sample, we confirm the final specification and start mass production. Bulk lead time is typically about 25 days.
Step 5: Inspection and shipment. Fixtures pass the checks above, are packed for export and shipped according to your delivery terms.
