Lighting for dining tables and different ceiling areas
Lin Hu is a Korean BBQ restaurant with more than 40 grill tables in a dining area of approximately 300 m². Its interior combines darker exposed-ceiling sections around the booth seating with white finished-ceiling areas. The lighting therefore needed to work with two different mounting conditions while keeping the tables, circulation areas and decorative walls visually distinct.
Table lighting matters in this setting because guests prepare and share food at the grill. The arrangement uses directed light over dining areas alongside more general room lighting, rather than relying on one uniform ceiling treatment throughout the restaurant.
Track spotlights for the dining areas
More than 60 black adjustable LED track spotlights are installed in the darker ceiling sections. They use 3000 K warm-white light, a colour rendering index of CRI ≥ 90, a high R9 value and relatively narrow beams for localised illumination around the tables.
R9 describes the rendering of a saturated red test colour and provides additional information alongside the general CRI value. It is relevant when selecting lighting for red-toned ingredients. The overall appearance of the food also depends on the light spectrum, aiming and surrounding illumination.
Adjustable track heads allow the direction of the light to be reviewed against individual table positions. Fixture aiming and sightlines are important in a dining room, particularly where guests sit close to the illuminated surfaces.
Recessed downlights and illuminated wall features
More than 80 recessed LED downlights, also specified at 3000 K, are used in the white ceiling areas as a complementary layer of general lighting. They help connect the brighter circulation areas with the more focused lighting at the tables.
Backlit murals featuring Korean cultural imagery bring light to the seating walls. Illuminated brand signage, including a tiger motif near the cashier area, adds a recognisable decorative element. Together, these features add another layer of light to the seating areas and help identify the brand near the cashier.
Project applications
This project shows how LED track lighting, recessed downlights and backlit decorative elements can be used together in a restaurant with mixed ceiling finishes. The track lighting provides adjustable accent illumination, while the recessed fixtures and illuminated panels address other parts of the dining space.
For a similar project, fixture selection should be based on the actual table plan, mounting height, ceiling construction, sightlines, extraction equipment and local electrical requirements. The number and positioning of fittings will depend on the layout and conditions of each venue.
